Behavioral/Mental Health Services
The County of San Diego operates an access and crisis line for mental and behavioral health as well as drug and alcohol related issues. CRISIS LINE: 1 800-479-3339

Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. We have been the leader in one-to-one youth service for more than a century, developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people. Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County serves children, ages 7 through 18, in five distinct programs: Amachi, Bigs in Schools, Community Mentoring, High School Bigs and Operation Bigs. BBBS of SDC matches children ages 7 through 16 with mentors in professionally supported one-to-one relationships.

Child Health and Disability Prevention Program
Your child or teenager may be eligible for a free physical exam and other health services. Uninsured children from low- to medium-income families, children in Head Start or state funded preschoools, and Medi-Cal recipients up to age 21 are eligible for: a complete physical exam; immunizations; vision and hearing screening; blood tests; oral health assessment; nutritional assessment; behavioral assessment; health education.

Conflict Resolution/Mediation
The San Diego Mediation Center (SDMC) has a long history with the residents and businesses of San Diego County and is committed to providing them quality alternative dispute resolution. Supported by the City of San Diego and San Diego County, the Community Mediation Program provides low and no cost mediation service to assist in resolving a myriad of common disputes, including:

Dental Services: No Cost
The Southwestern College Higher Education Center in National City offers free dental services from students in its Dental Hygiene Program. Services include: dental cleaning, oral screening, dental x-rays, fluoride tratments, and sealants (children 6-18 years of age).

Emergency Food Assistance
The San Diego Food Bank is offering an emergency food assistance program to low income families in the South Bay area. If you qualify for this program you can only go once a month. For example, a household size of 1 individual, maximum annual household income would be $14,700 to qualify or for a household size of 5, maximum annual household income would be $35,100. The San Diego Food Bank is also offering a Commodity Supplemental Food Program. CSFP is a program that provides food and nutrition education to low income pregnant women, women 12 months postpartum, breast feeding mothers, children under the age of six, and seniors sixty and over. Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
MAAC Project assists low-income utility customers to pay their energy bills. Residents are eligible once a year (every 12 months) but must have current charges in the amount of $35 or more. The application process begins via telephone. We take calls at all 3 Service Centers; San Ysidro, 428-1139, Chula Vista 409-1697, and National City every Monday beginning at 8am.

Legal Assistance - FREE and BILINGUAL
The University of San Diego's Legal Clinics provide free legal assistance to lower-income individuals and families in the areas of:
- Appellate:Handles the entire appeal from start to finish - brief to oral argument. These cases are referred from the pro bono panel at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
- Civil:Includes consumer issues, breach of contract, uninsured motorist defense, fraud and consumer debt collection disputes.
- Education & Disability:Represents the parents of students with in cases ranging from IEP eligibility and services, placement, discipline and expulsions, 504 Plans, Early Start, Regional Center eligibility and services, and limited conservatorships.
- Entrepreneurship:Provides comprehensive legal assistance to individuals or groups who have questions about small business ventures, including non-profit corporations, whether starting or expanding a business; advises on trademark and copyright issues.
- Federal Tax:Represents lower-income taxpayers who have disputes with the Internal Revenue Service in matters such as collection action, audits, earned income tax credits and offers in compromise. Make appearances at U.S. Tax Court.
- Immigration:Offers assistance for immigration-related problems including asylum, immigrating family members, naturalization and deportation.
- Landlord Tenant:Represents clients in matters such as Superior Court unlawful detainer trials and in administrative hearings involving federally subsidized Section 8 termination proceedings.
- Small Claims:Provides assistance to individuals filing in the Small Claims Court (claims less than $10,000), and represents clients in small claims appeals in Superior Court.
- State Income Tax:Represents lower income taxpayers who are appealing state income tax disputes with the California Franchise Tax Board.
- State Sales & Use Tax:Assists taxpayers at the Petitions stage of proceedings with the California Franchise Tax Board in disputes regarding sales tax (such as vehicles and boats) and use tax (commercial).
- Veterans Clinic:Represents student veterans in disputes with predatory lenders and for-profit educational institutions over the use of GI Bill funds and related loans. Free legal services range from advice to identification of potential claims to representation in arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution.

Tutoring
The Chula Vista library is now providing tutoring. Online tutoring and homework help is now available as close as the nearest computer with an internet connection. Parents, babysitters, schools and youth serving programs can now help students access online tutoring thanks to the Chula Vista public library. All you need is a library card! Veterans Village of San Diego
Veterans Employment & Training South provides customized reemployment assistance to Recently Separated Veterans (preceding 48 months) and/or Homeless Veterans. Services may include job search/placement assistance, supportive services, vocational training and retention follow-up.
